“The youths brought up some gaps that need addressing in making sure of inclusivity. They want to be involved in every point in research, innovations, agricultural outreach, and food safety,” Prof. Owuor reported.
Egerton University hosted a high-level policy roundtable on 20 August 2025 during the Kenya National Research Festival, bringing together senior government officials, university leaders, and parliamentarians to deliberate on a proposed master plan for research funding and capacity strengthening.
The Agroscience Park at Egerton University attracted more than 300 farmers during the National Research Festival. Farmers saw new technologies tested under real farm conditions.Researchers showed progress in participatory variety selection. Trials for diseases such as halo blight in beans, ascochyta blight in chickpea, fusarium wilt in pigeon peas, necrotic disease in maize, and blast in millets were on display. Fertilizer and foliar spray trials were also presented.
