Egerton University, Kenya, in partnership with the Regional Universities Forum for Capacity Building in Agriculture (RUFORUM) and Gulu University in Uganda, through the support from MasterCard Foundation, is implementing a Program titled “Transforming African Agricultural Universities to meaningfully contribute to Africa’s Growth and Development (TAGDev)”.
Egerton University is seeking to boost value addition for cassava, which is largely consumed as subsistence food in Eastern Africa’s rural households.
The programme funded by Community Action Research Project (CARP+), Regional Universities Forum for Capacity Building in Agriculture (RUFORUM) and the MasterCard Foundation also targets to create jobs, increase food and nutrition security, as well as improve cassava quality, productivity and its marketability both locally and abroad.
This kickoff session will focus on preparing you for the emotional, social and economic aspects of the transition following graduation and will help you think through your different career stages and options, including employment opportunities, entrepreneurship, continuing study and post-internship opportunities.

The Cassava Cook Festival held in Nakuru kicked off with an insightful overview from Director of Research, Prof. Nancy Mungai, highlighting the substantial support provided by Ruforum and TAGDev to promote sustainable farming in the region.

Egerton University is proud to announce its participation in the upcoming Regional Universities Forum for Capacity Building in Agriculture (RUFORUM) Second Triennial Conference scheduled for Windhoek, Namibia, from August 12th to 16th, 2024. The conference, themed "Operationalising Higher Agricultural Education and Research Ecosystems for Innovation, Industrialisation, and Economic Development in Africa: A Call for Action", will be a pivotal moment for the continent's agricultural sector.
A highlight of the conference will be the launch of TAGDev 2.0, a program designed to strengthen universities and Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions in driving an inclusive, equitable, and climate-resilient transformation of Africa's agriculture and agrifood systems.
TAGDev 2.0 focuses on experiential learning, skilling, and empowering young people to become leaders in African agriculture. As a leading institution in agricultural education, Egerton University is committed to contributing its expertise and resources to the success of this program.
The opening ceremony of the RUFORUM Conference will officially launch TAGDev 2.0, bringing together over 1000 delegates, including policymakers, academics, researchers, young entrepreneurs, and farmers. Egerton University will actively participate in the conference, showcasing its contributions to agricultural innovation and education while fostering collaborations and partnerships to advance Africa's agricultural development.
