Esteemed scientists, researchers and experts from across the globe will convene at Egerton University on the 16th and 17th of August for the Capacity Building Workshop on Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology Research for African Universities and Research Institutions. The event marks a pivotal moment in advancing scientific knowledge and innovation in genetic engineering and biotechnology on the African continent.
Distinguished guests and speakers, including Dr Lawrence Banks, Director-General of the International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB), and Prof. Walter Oyawa, Director-General of NACOSTI, have been acknowledged for their instrumental roles in establishing the International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology Regional Research Centre (ICGEB RRC) at Egerton University. The ICGEB RRC stands as a beacon of hope for aspiring scientists, offering unparalleled access to cutting-edge research and innovations.
Keynote addresses by eminent figures such as Dr Ramesh Sonti of ICGEB India and Prof. Guio-qing Song of Michigan State University have set the stage for profound discussions and insights during the workshop. The event's rich lineup of speakers, including representatives from ICGEB India, IAVI Kenya, NBA Kenya, RUFORUM, NAU China, IUCEA, and CESAAM Egerton University, promises a dynamic exchange of ideas and experiences.
The workshop has been made possible through the generous support of the Alliance for Africa Partnership (AAP), which awarded a grant to Prof. Josiah Omolo of Egerton University and Prof. Song of Michigan State University. This collaboration highlights the commitment of AAP to fostering international cooperation and knowledge-sharing.
With over 300 registered attendees representing academia, research institutions, and industry, the predominantly virtual workshop exemplifies a united effort to drive progress and innovation across borders, with a limited number of participants having the opportunity for in-person attendance.
