Egerton University has emerged among the top winners at the 2025 China International College Students' Innovation Competition – Africa Regional Finals, held on July 25, 2025, at the Argyle Grand Hotel in Nairobi, Kenya.
The university clinched four major awards—one gold, two silver, and one bronze—demonstrating its growing reputation as a leader in innovation and entrepreneurship. The competition attracted teams from top universities across the continent, showcasing groundbreaking student-led projects in technology, agriculture, health, and social impact.
The Africa Regional Finals served as a qualifying event for the global championships set to take place in China later this year, where the winning teams will represent Africa on the international stage.
Egerton University Vice Chancellor Prof. Isaac Kibwage congratulated the students and their mentors for their remarkable performance.
“Egerton is the hub of innovation in the region and a leader among entrepreneurial universities in Kenya and across the continent,”
he stated during a side media interview at the venue.
Prof. Kibwage, alongside the Vice President of Nanjing Agricultural University (China) and the Vice Chancellor of Kabarak University, officiated the awarding ceremony, presenting medals and certificates to winners from universities across Africa.
The event underscored the importance of cross-continental academic partnerships and student-driven innovation in addressing pressing global challenges. It also provided a platform for young innovators to gain international exposure and collaborative opportunities.
Egerton’s success at the regional finals is a clear reflection of its strategic investment in research, innovation, and enterprise development through various incubation hubs and academic programs.
The university now looks forward to the global stage in China, where its innovators will compete with the best from around the world.
