Ladies and gentlemen,

It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to this landmark occasion as Egerton University formally receives the ISO 9001: 2015 Quality Management System certificate from the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS).

Over the past months and indeed years we have embarked on a conscious journey to embed a culture of quality across every facet of the University’s operations. As noted earlier this year, our senior leadership initiated a top-management briefing on ISO 9001:2015, facilitated by KEBS specialists, to ensure that we understood the principles of customer focus, process approach, leadership engagement, evidence-based decision-making and continual improvement.

We followed this with training of our technical and administrative staff across directorates, departments and sections to ensure that the QMS is not just a document on the shelf but a living system guiding our service delivery. During subsequent audit of our QMS, the auditors reviewed our processes systematically and this certificate marks the successful conclusion of that accreditation process.

In practical terms this achievement means that we will sharpen our focus on student and stakeholder satisfaction, we will streamline and document our processes across teaching, research, extension, administrative and support services and we commit to continuous monitoring of our performance through data and feedback.

I am confident that with this certification Egerton University will strengthen its reputation as a globally competitive institution of higher learning, embodying its tagline of “Transforming Lives through Quality Education.” Let me therefore invite you to join us in celebrating this achievement and more importantly, to commit together to its sustained implementation.
