SUMMARY

 I am an established researcher with over 10 years of experience in planning, executing, and supervising agricultural-related research projects, working at Tegemeo Institute of Agricultural policy and Development and the Department of Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness Management of Egerton University. I hold an MSc. in Agricultural Economics from the University of Pretoria (SA). My research interests are: sustainable agricultural production systems, gender quality and women empowerment in agriculture, product diversification, integrated pest management, integrated soil management, and climate change. I have been involved in data management, data cleaning and analysis for different multi-sectoral and multi-institutional national and regional projects using programs like SPSS, STATA, R-studio and EViews. I possess unmatched skills in various data collection softwares such as ODK, SurveyCTO, SurveyBe and Survey Solutions. I have been instrumental in training ODK and SurveyCTO to the staff of different organizations transitioning to CAPI. Currently, I am a lecturer at the department of Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness Management at Egerton University.

Attended an ODK and SurveyCTO training organized by Nafundi between 8th and 11th Dec 2014 on CAPI and questionnaire design

Achievements

The training sharpened my skills in designing advanced and complex questionnaires in both ODK and SurveyCTO, setting up ODK server, downloading and exporting data from the servers and organizing the data into workable form

Attended a SurveyBe Training for Computer Assisted Personal Interviews (CAPI) in Dar es-Salaam-Tanzania where the training centred on questionnaire design using SurveyBe Designer software, data collection using SurveyBe Implementer and exporting data from Implementer to other data management software like SPSS and STATA

Responsibilities

My main responsibilities at Tegemeo institute included; Enumerator Training, Questionnaire design, both paper-based and computer assisted, Supervision and Coordination of field data Collection, Data cleaning using SPSS and STATA softwares, Data manipulation and archiving, Data Analysis and Report writing.

Achievements

The trainings and experience obtained while at Tegemeo institute allowed me to further my skills in data management and analysis using different statistical software such as SPSS, Excel and STATA. I acquired hands on leadership skills from various assignments such as supervision of field enumerators, overall supervision of data cleaning, and data management at the Institute. Other notable knowledge obtained include; Designing of questionnaires using excel, word, SurveyBe, Survey CTO and ODK softwares, where I also had an opportunity to train other staff in using these platforms

As a data expert, I have been involved in several projects promoting gender inclusivity and equality and women empowerment. Some of these projects include: TAPRA project and Feed the Future Projects (FtF). I was involved in coming up with indicators measuring gender inclusivity and women empowerment aspects and also analyzing both panel and cross-sectional data especially bringing out the gender aspects.

Responsibilities

  • Assisted in data collection and cleaning of rural household surveys for USAID and TAPRA projects
  • Part of a team that collected data of a project that was monitoring the impact of AGRA interventions in Nyanza and Western regions 
  • Part of a team that collected data used in monitoring the impact of fair trade and UTZ certification in coffee in Central and Eastern regions   
  • Conducted research on food security and nutritional welfare of Kenya’s urban consumers (Region-Nairobi)

 

4. May 2009-Sept 2010 

Organization: International Maize and Wheat Improvement Centre (CIMMYT)

Position: Enumerator

Responsibilities

  • Part of a team that collected data on the awareness of aflatoxin maize and its effects in Nyanza & Eastern Provinces
  • I also collected data that was meant to measure the impact of subsidies on small scale maize farmers in Kisii and Embu districts

CABI Africa -PRISE Project

Objective

The aim of the consultancy was to principally assess the project’s research and research up-take in terms of design, scope, implementation, and to generate relevant findings, lessons learnt, best practices and recommendations for CABI (the implementing organization) and other key stakeholders that can be used to guide and inform future program strategies.

 

2. May 2016

Farm Africa

Objective

The aim of the consultancy was to use SPSS and/or STATA to run basic data consistency and accuracy tests of household data that had been collected and remove the inconsistencies

 

3. October 2015

Africa Agricultural Technology Foundation (AATF) CAMAP project

Objective

The consultancy was aimed at reviewing data entry templates designed in SPSS, undertaking data entry of all valid questionnaires and carrying out necessary tests for data consistency, validity and accuracy.
