SUMMARY
Dr. Magangi is the Scholar Media Mental Health Awareness and iChange Nations Women Add Value International Award winner; a trained, proactive; self-driven and qualified research and evaluation consultant, gender and youth expert; mental health champion and a seasoned educationist. Dr. Magangi holds a PhD in Gender and Development Studies from Kisii University; a Master’s in Education Research and Evaluation from Catholic University of Eastern Africa, a Diploma in Education Leadership and Management from Kenya Education Management Institute (KEMI) and a Bachelor’s degree in Education English and Literature from Catholic University of Eastern Africa. She is a Mental Health Awareness and Wellness Counselor and Champion, a Member of the Gusii Mental-health Awareness (GMA) NGO and Young Women Christian Association (YWCA) Kisii. She is the Founder of the organization Chit-Chat with Dr. Meg an organization that offers consultancy services on gender, awareness on GBV, Mental Health, mentorship, community outreach and capacity building. Dr. Magangi has been a champion against all forms of GBV particularly FGM and SGBV since 2015. A consultant for NGOs and CBOs such as CECOME and Manga Heart under the umbrella of ISF where together with my co-consultant, developed the Alternative Rites of Passage against FGM Children Handbook as well as reviewed the Curriculum: these books are currently being used in the community both Kisii and Nyamira counties. She also served as the secretary Kisii County Lions Club for two years between the period 2016/17 where they conducted medical camps, distributed a one year sanitary towels program to over 300 girls in Kisii and Nyamira Counties. She has been one of the event Coordinators of the Kisii Queens Gala and Expo in 2018, 2023 & 2024 which hosted State Rep. Huldah Hiltsley, the representative of the Minnesota House of Representatives an event which brought together over 100 professional women in Kisii County with talks centered around women economic empowerment. Dr. Magangi has organized, coordinated, mobilized for resources and partners and participated in a number of sensitization walks and campaigns to mark 16 days of activism against GBV since 2016 to date, peace walks and Menstrual hygiene awareness exercises, among others. In this period she has engaged in a number of community sensitization activities against GBV and Mental Health within Kisii and Nyamira County working closely with local NGOs, CBOs, Woman MP Kisii County and Kisii University. Dr. Magangi was a member of the Technical Working Group (TWG) against SGBV Kisii County in the period 2016 -2018.and was recently involved as a gender expert in the development of the Kisii County Gender Policy. Dr. Magangi is a Life member Kenya Redcross Society and served as Chair of patrons Redcross Clubs, Kisii County in 2023-2024.

April 2025: Attended and held a Key Note Presentation in the Scholar Media Inaugural Conference at the Trademark Hotel, Nairobi themed: Engendering the Mental Health Conversation for Inclusivity and Development. May 2024: Facilitated a Virtual Public Lecture for South Eastern Kenya University (SEKU) staff and students on Mental Health Awareness themed: There is no Health without Mental Health. April 2024: As the Chair of Patrons Kisii County Red Cross Clubs in Schools, participated as a Keynote Speaker on the Triple Threat Convention bringing together over 10 schools and 3,000 students from Kisii, Nyamira and Homabay Counties with emphasis on GBV and its effects on adolescents. March 2024: Participated as a panelist during the celebration of the International Women’s Day celebration hosted by CECOME NGO in Kisii County. March 2024: Mobilised different stakeholders to mark the International Women’s Day Celebration held at Kisii Women prison. A chess tournament and crowning of miss Prison was among the activities. February 2024: Engaged Chiefs and Ass. Chiefs on their roles in mitigation of FGM and GBV in locations within Kitutu Chache North Constituency courtesy of CECOME NGO. The presentation was themed Gender Based Violence: a Community –based Participatory Approach for Chiefs and Ass. Chiefs in Kitutu Chache North, Kisii county. Further trained Community Health Promoters, Paralegals, Teachers and Religious Leaders too. November 2023: Embarked on the campaign of 16 Days of Activism against Gender Based Violence by participating as a guest speaker at the A Million Hugs organization weekly mental health wellness chat on the topic : Intimate Partner Violence, Kisii. March 2023: Participated as a speaker on the topic” gender based violence and mental wellness” during the Women Techmakers (WTM) meeting; a women-run, tech-driven program empowering young women in technology in the Department of Computing Sciences Kisii University. This was in line with the International Women’s day celebrations with the theme: DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality, Dare to Be. March 2023: Involved in a Training of Trainers (ToT) of Nyamira North Women Sacco and Bosinya Women CBO in Nyamira County on the topics: Family, Marriage, Human Rights within the Kenyan Constitution, Gender roles, Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) and Female Genital Mutilation(FGM). August 2022: Facilitated at Nyamira North Women SACCO refresher training on Psychological support of victims and survivors of Intimate Partner Violence (IPV), guidance and counseling and reporting of cases of GBV as community leaders/volunteers.
