SUMMARY

Dr Vincent Kiprono Mukthar is a Senior Lecturer/Senior Research Fellow of Nursing (Nursing Education) in the Department of Nursing. Dr Mukthar holds PhD degree in Nursing (Nursing Education) from University of Nairobi (Kenya; 2020), Master of Science in Nursing sciences degree (Nursing Education) from University of Nairobi (Kenya; 2006) and and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from University of Eastern Africa, Baraton Kenya (Kenya; 2000)). Dr Mukthar joined the Department of Nursing, Egerton University, as an Assistant Lecturer in May 2008. Since joining Egerton University, Dr Mukthar has scaled academic and professional heights by successfully completing a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree and has defied the odds to rise to the current position of a Senior Lecturer.

Dr Mukthar has dedicatedly served as Chairman, the Department of Nursing for two terms from 2011 to 2018. During his tenure as Chair, Dr Mukthar presided over the curriculum design , piloting, execution and routine revisions of Bachelor of Science in Nursing (Direct Entry). This program one of the most sought after programme in both the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) platform and via Self-sponsorship (SSP) modes. Dr Mukthar is the current Program Academic Leader of Bachelor of Science in Nursing (Direct Entry), Bachelor of Science in Nursing (Inservice Mode) and Diploma in Nursing (Inservice Mode).

Dr Mukthar has vast experience in applied health research, community outreach and consultancy services focusing on nursing education pedagogy and andragogy, maternal and neonatal health issue, population, demography and health . Dr Mukthar has competitively won three moderate capacity internal grants as Principal investigator; The Uptake and Determinants of Skilled Birth Attendance in Rongai Sub-County, Nakuru County – Kenya (sept 2014-16), The Use of Modern Contraceptives Among the Women (15-49 years) Attending Maternal Child Health/Family Planning Units in PGH, Nakuru- Kenya (2012-13) and Percutaneous Injuries and Post-Exposure Prohylaxis among the nurses in PGH, Nakuru- Kenya (2010-12).

Dr Mukthar is a prolific scholar with over twenty (20) scientific publications in refereed scientific journals, two (2) academic modules several conference/workshop/symposium papers. Dr Mukthar is properly registered with the Nursing profession regulatory body, Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK Registration number 206) and is granted a Valid Practice License (NCK/PL/03793)

He has successfully supervised one (1) Master’s student and currently supervising eight(8) Masters Students and 1 PhD student thesis researches in Nursing, Nutrition, health and allied fields. Dr Mukthar is great resource and knowledge reporsitory which has earned him appointment as an Adjunct Lecturer in Kabarak Univerisity. He is a seasoned examiner and besides, being appointed in several universities as an External Examiner, has also been an examiner for the Nursing council of Kenya.
