June 2017–To Date  -Assistant Accountant II – Finance Department Egerton University Students Finance Section 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Monitor and act on all payments made to the University relating to the students.
  • Receive record and receipt all third-party payments which includes, capitation from the Government, HELB, CDF, and Other sponsor's money.
  • Record and forward all the documents to the funds allocation section of student's finance and  keep a record of all unidentified income
  • Make sure all cheques received from third parties are properly documented, banked and reconciliation done on daily basis.
  • Apart from the students fees I make sure every other income that passes through the university bank accounts is properly receipted to ease reconciliation
  • Ensure proper filling of all documents relating to cash received whether for students fees or any other activity earning the university income(AIA)
  • Attend to students on issues related to their fees 
  • Handling all international remittances towards the student's fees and related expenses.

April 2004 –June 2017  -Project  Accountant  - Crop Management Research Training

Project(CMRT), Egerton University

 Key Responsabilités 

  • Managed government and private foundation grants working closely with programme management on budgets, programs and financial reporting as well as guiding and directing the project staff.
  • Manage all accounting related functions for the assigned projects in accordance to the donor requirements.
  • Make all payments in compliance with every project requirements and do timely reporting within the required timeline
  • Generate daily reports on the projects and forward them to the management
  • Advice the Director, and the management on all financial matters pertaining to the Project and other sub projects within the project
  • Preparation and reporting on financial accounts and forecast, budgeting and budget control
  • Preparation and payment of Payroll items including statutory deductions, suppliers and invoices for the debtors.
  • Monthly bank reconciliation for all the Projects Accounts
  • Preparation of financial statements in accordance to accounting GAAP
  • Custodian of Project Cheque books and an agent of project bank accounts
  • International Standards Organization (ISO) compliance

  • Monitoring and management of grant fund making payments to the programme officers as well as taking care of their housing, insurance. Medical cover and travel facilitations
  • Worked closely with grant officers on matters of budget line items and adhering to the same as far as financial reporting in accordance to grant requirements is concerned.

  • Management of Accounting records, financial statements, and other financial reports to assess accuracy, completeness and conformance to reporting and procedural standards.
  • Review and provide advice on internal control systems for effective management
  • Verifying accounting transactions to ensure compliance with laid down procedures
  • Accounting Documents authentication and verification
  • Expenditure claim to the donor or Advance request from the donor
  • Liaising with external auditors for objective audits and response to audit queries.
