SUMMARY

Bockline Omedo Bebe is an acknowledged and accomplished academic, researcher and manager in university leadership, an experience spanning over 20 years. He is a professor of Livestock Production Systems. He holds PhD and MSc Degrees in Animal Science from Wageningen University and BSc and Diploma in Animal production from Egerton University. He has demonstrated leadership at Egerton University in acting Deputy Vice Chancellor for Research and Extension (01-2020 to 08-2022), Director Research and Extension (10-2016 to 01-2020), Deputy Director Extension and Consultancy Services (05-2013 to 10-2016), Associate Dean, Faculty of Agriculture (2007 – 2009), and academic team leader for MSc and PhD Programmes in Livestock Production Systems (since 2014). He has directly contributed to development and realization of university strategic goals through chairing and/or membership in committees on resource mobilization, master plan development, strategic plan, and (co-)authoring key policy documents on research, extension, intellectual property, consultancy and climate change action plan. He has consulted and produced policy documents on livestock policies, dairy masterplan, agricultural extension models and climate change actions for the Kenya government, East African Community, African Union and World Bank. He is serving in international advisory boards of the Centre of Excellence in Food Security of University of Western Cape (UWC) and University of Pretoria (UP), South Africa (DSI-NRF -CoE-FS). He is a scientific reviewer to several journals and topical position papers and delivers invited lectures in conferences. He was a General Secretary of Animal Production Society of Kenya (APSK; 2003 to 2006). Prof Bebe has successfully implemented dozens of collaborative research projects with national, regional and international partners. He has published widely, and is highly cited with citation index in the google scholar, as at June 2023 standing at 2217 overall, 24 h-index and 47 i10-index, for which he has been listed among the top 500 most cited authors in Africa. His publications include contributions to a number of book chapters and book editorials, and (co-)author of over 150 scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals and conferences. He has supervised 15 Doctoral and 34 MSc students to graduation. He is active in teaching, research, consultancy, and supervision and mentoring of both under-and post-graduate students. His research interests are in food systems addressing sustainability, regenerative innovations, bio circular economy, inclusivity and the role of livestock in bio circular economy; adaptation and mitigation of climate change in mixed and pastoral livestock systems; and sustainable livestock management innovations.
