A high-level meeting was convened today at Egerton University by Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic Affairs, Research & Extension), Prof Benard Aduda, involving a delegation from the Kenya National Qualifications Authority (KNQA) and the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) placement team.
The KNQA team was led by Board Chair Hon. Stanley Kiptis, with Chief Executive/Director-General Dr Alice Kande, Director of CBET/TVET James Muchiri, Director of Placement at KUCCPS Prof John Oluoch and Dr Winnie Bulumi of KNQA.
The meeting focused on the policy on assessment and certification of qualifications offered by Institutions of higher learning to respond to the evolving demands of work and industry, a key priority under the KNQA’s mandate to align qualifications with labour-market needs.

Prof. Aduda said the University is honoured to host the KNQA workshop on drafting the National Policy Framework for Assessment and Certification of Qualifications , an event that brings together members of the National Technical Working Committee (TWC) responsible for developing the system for assessment and certification. The workshop runs from 28-31 October 2025. KNQA
Registrar Academic Affairs, Prof Mwanarusi Saidi, expressed gratitude to the KNQA team for choosing Egerton University as the venue , noting that the timing coincides with student-related engagements ahead of the 28 November 2025 graduation date.

" I can attend this workshop and also handle students needs especially now that we are set for the Graduation," said Prof Mwanarusi.
Also participating, Prof Nzula Kitaka emphasised the importance of certificate and diploma courses, especially given the University’s recent engagements with stakeholders to build infrastructure supporting technical courses.
“We met stakeholders like Safaricom Foundation who are ready to work with us in this area, thus we need policies that can accommodate private-sector needs,” she stated.
Prof. Aduda added that the University continues to face challenges in offering diploma programmes because there is no government-capitated funding for them.
He noted that constituency Members of Parliament sometimes approach the University to offers proframmes for their constituents and they pay the costs for locally-needed courses, citing the example of programmes at the Chemeron Campus in Baringo South.
KUCCPS and other stakeholders are supporting the Kenya National Qualifications Authority (KNQA) to develop the National Policy Framework on Assessment and Certification of Qualifications during a workshop taking place at Egerton University, Nakuru County.
Representing KUCCPS is Prof. John Oluoch, the Director for Placement Coordination and Career Development.
The workshop, taking place from 28th to 31st October 2025, brings together members of the National Technical Working Committee (TWC) for development of System for Assessment and Certification.
The initiative aims to establish a harmonised and transparent national approach to assessment and certification, ensuring quality, comparability, and credibility of qualifications across all sectors.
