The Egerton University Students Association (EUSA) elections kicked off this morning, with the digital voting system "Smartkura' officially opening at 7.00 a.m.A total of 118 aspirants are contesting for 34 available leadership positions across the Students Governing Council, faculties, congress, and halls of residence.
Speaking at the start of the exercise, the Dean of Students, Dr. Japheth Muthamia, urged all registered students to turn up and participate in the democratic process by electing leaders who will represent their interests. He was accompanied by the Assistant Dean of Students, Dr. Justine Omwoyo, and the Chair of the Computer Science Department Dr Bosire Zachary who joined university officials in overseeing the start of the exercise. They termed the process open, transparent, and fair.

Complementary congress categories include representatives for People Living with Disabilities (PWDs), Postgraduate students, Sports Congress, and International Students Congress, ensuring diverse representation within the student leadership structure.
University officials expressed confidence that the voting exercise will proceed smoothly as students across the campus cast their ballots to determine the next cohort of EUSA leaders.

The Students Governing Council has six positions up for election, while the faculties will elect 11 representatives. Another 11 positions will be filled by representatives from the halls of residence, with additional seats under the congress category.
