In a vibrant display of collaboration and innovation, the 2025 CESAAM (Central and Eastern Sustainable Agriculture and Agribusiness Management) and Egerton University-Bowie Students Exchange Program culminated in a highly successful symposium aimed at advancing scientific research on sorghum and fish held at Egerton University’s Njoro campus.
The the event brought together students from Bowie State University-USA, Graduate mentors, researchers, from Egerton University passionate about sustainable agriculture.The exchange program, for Masters Students , is a collaboration between CESAAM member institutions and Egerton University’s Bowie Campus, in the United States.It is designed to promote joint research and innovative solutions to curbing challenges facing crop and fish farming.
Closing the Sympoisum on behalf of the Vice Chancellor, DVC Academic, Research and Extension Prof. Benard Aduda said the symposium did not only showcased the brightest minds among the students but also reinforced the vital partnership between Egerton University and CESAAM.
This partnership will in future, offer long lasting innovative solutions and collaborative efforts that will support young scientists in research for sustainable growth.He lauded the remarkable presentations, excellent discussions, and the talents demonstrated by the young scientists. He challenged them to put in practice skills learnt in solving current issues affecting the society.
During the symposium, the 12 student-led research presentations highlighted breakthroughs in sorghum farming, fish and value addition.Beyond research exhibitions, Experts emphasized the importance of integrating scientific innovations with community-based extension services to maximize impact.
Graduate mentors, Students and Dons expressed optimism on strengthening international collaborations through the exchange program, on entrepreneurship in agritech.The students attributed the success of the 2025 symposium to their dedication, creativity, and commitment to advancing scientific knowledge in the spirit of innovation and collaboration.
The joint collaboration, reinforced the significance of international educational exchanges as CESAAM and Egerton University continue to nurture young scientists in research and in the broader agricultural development.Present were Prof Richard Mulwa- DVC Administration, Finance and Planning, Prof. George Owuor, Prof. Eric Cheruiyot, Prof Kimurto, Prof Joshua Ogendo, Prof. Nzula Kitaka, Leonard Chesang, Dr Flora Fedha, Dr Maurice Udoto, ProOf Anne Osano-Programme Director, Bowie State University,USA who thanked Egerton University for continued commitment in hosting the Training that has given it a strong exchange value.Students were issued with certificates of completion.
