Egerton University Set to Host NRF Conference as Nakuru County Government Commits Infrastructure Support
Egerton University is set to host the prestigious National Research Fund (NRF) Conference from August 18th to 22nd, 2025. The event is expected to draw researchers, farmers, students, and key stakeholders from across the country, focusing on innovations in agriculture and related sectors.
In preparation for the five-day conference, Egerton University held a planning meeting on July 28th with officials from the County Government of Nakuru. The meeting cantered on logistical preparations, particularly the repair and maintenance of internal roads critical for movement during the event.
The university formally requested the county’s support in rehabilitating these roads, a request that was positively received. The County Government pledged to provide the necessary assistance, recognizing the importance of reliable infrastructure for the success of the conference.
The Egerton University delegation included Prof. Richard Mulwa, Deputy Vice Chancellor-Administration, Finance and Planning, Professor George Owuor among others.
Representing the County Government were Honourable Leonard Bor, CECM for Agriculture; Honourable Engineer Michael Kamau, Chief Officer for Roads; along with Lilian Samoei and Bernard Yegon from the Departments of Agriculture and Innovation.
In addition to infrastructure support, the county will coordinate the identification of farmers to attend the conference. Selected participants will visit Egerton’s demonstration plots as part of the hands-on learning experience. The university will provide transport and limited accommodation support, especially for conference attendees.
Egerton University has allocated 200 slots for farmers and school groups. The main plenary sessions will be held at Kilimo Hall, with breakout sessions scheduled at the PSTs (Practical Skills Training Centres). To ease transportation, the university will operate a shuttle service from Njoro town throughout the event.
A joint press briefing is scheduled for Thursday, July 31, at Egerton University. The NRF team, expected on campus this week, will coordinate all official communication related to the conference.
Professor Owuor affirmed the university’s readiness to host the conference, noting that final protocols will be confirmed once guest confirmations are received.
This partnership between Egerton University and the County Government of Nakuru underscores a shared commitment to advancing agricultural research, innovation, and community
