Egerton University ranked amongst the top universities in Kenya

The Webometric Rankings of World Universities has ranked Egerton University at position 3 in Kenya in the January 2022 rankings. The Webometric rankings assess universities in impact, openness and excellence parameters.

The impact category ranks universities on the basis of their academic presence (journals linked to the University website), which constitutes 50%. The openness category looks at the number of citations from authors, which carries 10%. Egerton University had 8,535 citations in the Webometric rankings. The excellence category looks at the number of papers among the top 10% most cited.

According to the Webometric Rankins website, in addition to content published on the website, universities should ensure open access and transparency policy and promote increasing volumes and quality of electronic publications to improve their positions.

In the lasted rankings, the University of Nairobi and Kenyatta University were at the first and second positions, respectively. The Webometrics Rankings is the most prominent academic ranking of higher education institutions assessing over 31,000 institutions worldwide. The next rankings will be at the end of July 2022.
