Egerton University’s Council and Management Board participated in a comprehensive capacity building workshop, jointly organized by Kenya's National Treasury and the Kenya School of Government. The event was hosted at the government-owned Morendat Institute in Naivasha, Nakuru County.
The 5 days’ workshop that comprised of 18 members; staff, University Management Board (UMB) and Council Members culminated on June 12, 2024. It was aimed at fortifying the university's leadership as it embarks on critical austerity measures and aligns its strategic activities with performance contract objectives and the institution's strategic plan. The initiative underscores the university’s commitment to optimizing resources and ensuring efficient operations amidst prevailing economic challenges.
Under the guidance of Dr. Hukka Wario, Chair of the University Council, and Prof. Isaac Kibwage, Vice Chancellor, the Egerton University team received insights from seasoned experts in corporate governance and leadership. The training sessions covered a range of topics including financial management, strategic planning, and effective leadership practices tailored to higher education institutions.
The university leadership's proactive engagement in such training underscores its dedication to fostering robust governance frameworks and enhancing institutional efficiency. This initiative is expected to significantly contribute to Egerton University's ongoing efforts to achieve sustainable growth and operational excellence.
Among the strategic plan initiatives of the University is highlighted in the Extension and Outreach policy which seeks to improve and enhance people's quality of life, through technology and innovation transfer and information sharing between Egerton University professionals and the general public.
The University endeavors to innovatively influence human development through research, extension and outreach. This will be achieved by transferring improved technologies and innovations to potential beneficiaries and sharing mutually beneficial knowledge and experiences.
The University Council consists of nine members; The Chairman and five members who are appointed by the Cabinet Secretary responsible for Education. Other members are the Principal Secretary responsible for Education, Principal Secretary responsible for National Treasury and the Vice-Chancellor as ex-officio member and secretary to the council. They consist of Amb. Dr Hukka Wario - Chairman of Council, Prof. Isaac Ongubo Kibwage Vice-Chancellor - Member/Secretary, Mr Julius K. Mutua – Alternate for Principal Secretary, the National Treasury, Mr Paul M. Mwangi-Alternate to the Principal Secretary, State Department for Higher Education and Research, Ministry of Education, Mr Christopher O. Oanda, Mr Charles N. Njenga, Ms Brenda N. Lubisia and Hon. Gideon Koske former Member of Parliament.
