At the recent inter-university product development competition, Egerton University students truly shined, showcasing their innovation, teamwork, and technical skills. Our Actuarial Science students participated in the national Product Development Competition (PDC) held on 3rd and 4th of July this year at JKUAT. The students were in two teams which excelled at the regional PDC held at Egerton University last year.
The product presented at PDC was titled: Enhancing Uptake and Contribution Consistency in the Mbao Pension Scheme among Kenya’s Informal Sector Workers. The students in the team were Joy Karumba (4th year), Wycliff Mambo(1st year), and Ruth Hika (1st year). The Egerton team led by Dr Cox Tamba, developed a sustainable and user-friendly product that addressed a pressing community need.
“I am pleased to inform you that one of our teams emerged 1st place in the Product Category at the National Product Development Competition (PDC). Join us in congratulating and celebrating our students. We also thank our lecturers who have walked with these students to get this far,”
said Dr Tamba.
The team from Egerton was commended for their creative approach to solving real-world problems, developing a sustainable and user-friendly product that addressed a pressing community need.
The students' dedication and hardwork earned them the first-place award, emerging top among other top universities.
This achievement highlights Egerton University's commitment to fostering a practical and research-driven educational teaching that the student are exposed to at their areas of study.
It also showed how students can create their own innovative and inventive ways in creating impactful solutions that benefit society.
The students' teamwork and technical skills made them unique participants from other universities. Their ability to collaborate effectively allowed them to foster innovative skilled solutions that stood out in the competition.
In addition, technical expertise gave them an advantage to demonstrate a deep understanding of the competition requirements.
