Egerton University Alumni Board Stresses CUE Compliance Ahead of Audit
By Kurian Musa | May 18, 2025
Egerton University is set to undergo a procedural audit by the Commission for University Education (CUE) from Monday to Thursday next week at the Njoro Campus.
Speaking during an Alumni Board meeting held at a hotel in Nakuru, Prof. Nzula Kitaka, Director of Marketing and Resource Mobilization, emphasized the importance of proper handing over and taking over of reports and documents, noting that this is a key requirement by the CUE.
Prof. Kitaka informed the board that the University Council is closely monitoring how Egerton manages its alumni relations, describing alumni as the “aorta” of the institution. “Alumni keep the bloodstream of student life flowing,” she said, stressing their critical role in shaping student experiences and supporting institutional development.
With over 100,000 alumni already captured in the university’s alumni database, Prof. Kitaka encouraged former students to verify and update their membership and contact details.
This, she noted, would enable effective communication and engagement with the university and contribute to sustained partnerships.
The meeting brought together more than 12 representatives from various alumni chapters and the executive committee to deliberate on key matters affecting the association. A major highlight was the formal recognition of the Egerton Alumni Christian Union as a new chapter. The chapter, made up of former students who continue to fellowship, was officially launched through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), marking a milestone in the diversification of alumni engagement through shared values and spiritual connection.
Key figures in attendance included Dr. Richard Rop (Alumni Chairman), Prof. Paul Kimurto (North Rift Chapter Representative), Dr. Stellar Wabwoba, Dr. Anne Tenya, Racheal Litei, Kiogora Moses, Richard Wachira, John Mutuma (Chairman, Egerton University Students Association), Dr. Duke Oeba (Nakuru Chapter Chair), Dennis Odero (Administrative Assistant, Alumni Relations Office), Miriam Chepkania, Anderson Ngolo (Coast Chapter Representative), and John Kamau (Administrator, Directorate of Marketing and Resource Mobilization).
Other issues discussed included the MoU between Egerton University and the Alumni Christian Union for the construction of a multi-purpose Christian Union Hall, which has already received approval from the University Council.
Additionally, the board explored investment opportunities in the money markets and strategies to revitalize regional alumni chapters, including Central Rift, Nairobi, South Rift, Western, Central, North Rift, Upper Eastern, and Coast regions.
The board reaffirmed its commitment to building a vibrant alumni network and enhancing its role in the university’s growth and development agenda.
