Egerton University on Monday, 16 June 2026 hosted a key stakeholder engagement forum organized by the Commission for University Education (CUE) on the Draft Universities (General) Regulations, 2026.

The day began with a courtesy call by the CUE team to the University leadership before the public participation exercise. The visit brought together university leaders, regulators and government representatives in a shared conversation on the future of university education in Kenya.
Representing the Vice Chancellor during the courtesy call was Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics, Research & Extension), Prof. Bernard Aduda. Also present were Principal of Nakuru City Campus College, Prof. George Ogendi and Director of Marketing and Resource Mobilization, Prof. Nzula Kitaka.

The CUE delegation was led by Chief Executive Officer Prof. Mike Kuria and Head of Institutional Accreditation Mr Joseph Musyoki. Mr Felix Oluoch attended on behalf of the Ministry of Interior and National Administration.

Welcoming the visitors, Prof. Aduda said Egerton University was honoured to host such an important engagement. He noted that the discussions were taking place at a critical moment as the country continues implementing the Competency-Based Curriculum, whose effects will eventually be felt in universities.

He emphasized the importance of involving stakeholders in shaping regulations that affect higher education. According to him, broader participation would strengthen acceptance of the regulations and ensure they serve the country's needs more effectively.
Prof. Aduda also acknowledged the important role played by CUE in maintaining quality standards and supporting accreditation of academic programmes.

Prof. Kuria said CUE had made deliberate efforts to speed up programme accreditation processes. He encouraged universities to strengthen collaboration with the Commission to improve service delivery and quality assurance.
Prof. Kitaka welcomed the decision to hold stakeholder forums outside Nairobi, saying it brought the conversation closer to institutions and communities. She noted that the approach encourages wider participation and more meaningful engagement.

Prof. Ogendi expressed optimism that the proposed regulations would contribute to improved programme quality and strengthen staffing standards across universities.
Following the courtesy call, participants proceeded to FEDCOS Theatre 2 for the stakeholder engagement forum, where views and recommendations on the draft regulations were collected from stakeholders.
