Members of the University Management Board, esteemed members of the TAGDev Coordinating Committee, and the TAGDev Program Secretariat, good morning.
I am pleased to address you today as we reflect on the strategic positioning and institutional significance of the TAGDev 2.0 Program within Egerton University.
From the outset, I wish to reaffirm University Management’s unwavering commitment to supporting the program in delivering transformative higher education and research-education that not only imparts knowledge but also drives meaningful change in society. The TAGDev 2.0 Program stands as a critical pillar in advancing our mandate as a university in research, innovation, and community engagement. It aligns seamlessly with both continental and global priorities, particularly in youth empowerment, food systems transformation, and inclusive development.
As a University, we have taken deliberate steps to provide strong strategic leadership and oversight for the program. Our participation in high-level governance platforms, including the Partnership Council and other continental engagements, highlights our role as a leading institution in shaping the direction of this transformative initiative. Internally, University Management has remained steadfast in ensuring that the program is guided by sound governance, accountability, and strategic direction. Importantly, TAGDev has provided us with a practical model for integrating externally funded programs into our institutional systems in a sustainable and structured manner.
Beyond individual program outputs, what is most significant is the institutional transformation taking place. We are strengthening our governance frameworks, reviewing and aligning our academic programmes to better respond to regulatory requirements and market needs, and investing in staff capacity to support modern approaches to teaching and learning. These efforts reflect a broader institutional shift towards relevance, quality, and impact and I am glad that TAGDev is making efforts to contribute to institutional transformation in line with the university strategic goals
A key component of this transformation is our focus on policy development and implementation. We recognize that strong policies are the backbone of any effective institution. At the same time, we acknowledge the need to further strengthen our monitoring and evaluation systems, enhance stakeholder engagement, and ensure closer alignment between policy and strategy. These are areas we are actively prioritizing as we deepen institutional reforms.
Equally important is our transition towards Competency-Based Education. This represents a strategic shift in how we deliver education, moving towards approaches that emphasize experiential learning, entrepreneurship, innovation, and the integration of digital and emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence. Our goal is clear: to produce graduates who are not only employable but also capable of creating opportunities for others.
