Egerton University Scores high on Webometrics

Egerton University tops Kenyan Universities and ranks sixth in Africa in the Impact category in January's, 2020 Webometrics ranking. The Webometrics Ranking of World Universities, also known as Ranking Web of Universities, is a ranking system for the world's universities based on a composite indicator that takes into account both the volume of the web content (number of web pages and files) and the visibility and impact of these web publications according to the number of external inlinks (site citations) they received. The Ranking aims to improve the presence of the academic and research institutions on the web and to promote the open access publication of scientific results. Egerton University scored big in the Impact category, which carries the highest weight (50%) alongside presence (5%), openness (10%), and excellence (35%), where the university also posted impressive results. In the Impact category, Egerton University floored its counterparts in Africa, and specifically, all fellow universities in Kenya, only falling behind The University of Cape Town (South Africa), River State University of Science & Technology (Nigeria), University of Pretoria (South Africa), Stellenbosch University (South Africa), and University of the Witwatersrand (South Africa). This ranking sets Egerton University a bar higher in terms of marked effect or influence through the content the university shares through its official website.  The high ranking on Impact, which carries significant weight in the ranking methodology, points out at the fact that Egerton University avails to the public domain information that proves essential for decision making and consumption both academically and professionally.
