
SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES FOR MSC & PHD STUDENTS
Scholarship opportunities are available for three MSc and one PhD students at Egerton University’s Dryland Research Training and Ecotourism Centre, Chemeron. The successful applicants will conduct their research work within Baringo/Koibatek Districts under the supervision of competent research teams at the Centre. The students’ projects will be geared to revitalizing agriculture for food security and enhancing wise use of natural resources in arid and semi-arid lands.
Qualification/Requirements
The applicants MUST meet the following criteria:
- Holder of a BSc degree (for the MSc applicants) with a first or second-upper class honours OR a MSc degree (for the PhD applicants) in Environmental Sciences, Animal Science/Health, Natural Resources Management, Dry-land Agriculture, Range Management, Agriculture, Agricultural and Business Management, Agricultural Education and Extension, Geography, Ecotourism or any other equivalent qualification from other institutions recognized by Egerton University senate.
- Have an interest or working experience in either: Dryland Crop Farming, Livestock Farming, Pastoral Risk Management, Landuse-Water Interactions, Climate Change Studies, Food Security, Soil Water Management, Agricultural Land Resource Management or any other related field.
- Be willing to spend most of the time (70%) in the project study sites (Baringo/Koibatek Districts).
- Submit quarterly progress reports on their research work.
- Be willing to participate and be physically involved in the day to day running of the project activities.
- Publish and present their research findings in refereed journals and conferences, respectively.
- Experience in data analysis and reporting will be an added advantage.
- Experience of research on use, management or conservation of natural resources in arid and semi-arid areas will be an added advantage (provide evidence)
- Good command of English (Spoken and written).
- Not more than 35 years of age.
