STRATEGIC PLAN 2009 – 2015
A THREE-YEAR OPERATIONAL PLAN
(2009/10, 2010/11 and 2011/12)
2009
Preamble
In the year 2005, Egerton University developed its first Strategic Plan, which was to last for the period 2005-2015. Its intents were to provide a clear vision to which the University should strive and define strategies and activities needed to realise the vision. From the start, the University was aware that there will be need to regularly monitor and evaluate the plan and its implementation to ensure that the issues and objectives are sufficiently focused on the vision.
After four years of implementation, the University realised there was need for revision of the Strategic Plan. It therefore organised workshops to bring together stakeholders to deliberate on the future of the University in relation to the plan. Following the consultations it was proposed that department, faculties, institutes, directorates, colleges prepare their strategic plans. These unit plans, the original strategic plan and the Government Development documents formed the foundation of the revised Strategic Plans. In addition to the plan, the University will prepare two three year operational plans to promote effective and efficient implementation of the plan. These operational plans will be derived from the revised Strategic Plan and therefore will be companion documents.
The present Three-Year operational plan schedule basically recasts the activities designed in the Strategic Plan with respect to the time of implementation. It identifies outputs in each particular year and enables clear allocation of resources. It breaks down the Strategic Plan into annual implementation schedule. In effect, it becomes the operational plan of the University for the financial years 2009-2010, 2010-2011 and 2011-2012.
The operational plan shows the Mandate of the University as provide for in the Egerton University Act of 1987, the Vision, Mission and Core Values. The issues, objectives, strategies and activities have been presented in a logical matrix format to indicate their relationships. In addition, responsibilities, time frame and targets have been included
