Admission Requirements

Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood Development Education)
Admission Requirements
The general University admission requirement of at least a KCSE certificate with a mean Grade of C+ shall apply. In addition, applicants must have scored at least grade C+ in the following subjects:
Either English or Kiswahili
Any one subject from: Mathematics or Physics or Chemistry or Physical Sciences
Any one subject from: History and Government, Geography, Religious Education or Social Education and Ethics.
Either Biology or Biological Sciences

Alternatively, applicants shall be admitted into the programme provided they hold either:
PI Teachers' Certificate and at least a KCSE Certificate with a mean Grade of C plain or KCE Division II or KACE I principal and 2 Subsidiary passes
OR
Diploma in Early Childhood Development Education from a recognized examining body.
OR
Certificate in ECDE teaching from a recognized examining body and at least a KCSE Certificate with a mean Grade of C plain or KCE Division II or KACE 1 principal and 2 subsidiary passes.
OR
KACE or its equivalent with at least 2 principal passes and 1 subsidiary pass.

Bachelor of Psychology
Admission Requirements
Applicants must satisfy entry requirements for admission into the University as prescribed by the Egerton University Senate. In addition, applicants must have passed K.C.S.E with a mean grade of C+ and minimum subject grades as indicated below:-
English or Kiswahili            C+
Biology or Biological Science    B-
Mathematics                 C+

Applicants with a minimum of Credit at diploma level in Psychology, Guidance and Counselling, Psychological Counselling, Education, Medical Health Professions, or Social Work, from institutions recognized by Egerton University Senate.

Applicants with a Pass at diploma level in Psychology, Guidance and Counselling, Psychological Counselling, Education, Medical Health Professions, or Social Work, from a recognized institution with at least two years of working experience in a relevant field.

Master of Arts in Guidance and Counselling

Admission Requirements
Applicants must satisfy entry requirements for Egerton University. In addition admission shall be offered to holders of first degree in Education, Sociology, Theology, Psychology, Philosophy, or any other related discipline, with at least Upper Second Class Honours or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution by Egerton University. Under special circumstances, admission may be offered to holders of a first degree with a Lower Second Class Honours and relevant experience in counselling, research, teaching, and work at an institution of higher learning recognized by the Senate. Provisional status of admission shall be granted to applicants who have Upper Second Class Honours or equivalent but lack undergraduate courses considered essential for graduate study in the major field. Provisional status shall not qualify the applicant to be eligible for appointment to an assistantship or award of a fellowship by the university.
Full graduate standing shall be granted when provisional status are corrected, within the first semester of their Master’s academic year or before, provided the student has maintained satisfactory academic record of ‘C’ average and above in course work taken in graduate classification.

Master of Education in Educational Foundations
Admission Requirements
i)    The common regulations for Masters Degree as stated in the Egerton University Statute shall apply.
ii)    The general regulations for Masters Degree in the Faculty of Education and Community studies shall apply.
iii)    In addition to 3.1 and 3.2, the following shall be eligible for admission to the masters degree in Educational foundations:
iv)    Holder of Bachelor of Education (Science), Bachelor of Education (Arts), Bachelor of Science (Agricultural Education and Extension), or Bachelor of Education (Agriculture and Home Economics) with at least Upper Second Class Honours from Egerton University or any other recognized University.
v)    Holder of Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts degree with at least Upper Second Class Honours, plus a Postgraduate Diploma in Education from Egerton University or any other recognized University;
vi)    Holder of degree stated in 3.3 (i) and 3.3 (ii) above but with lower second class honours shall be eligible for admission if:
a.    They have relevant postgraduate training acceptable to the Egerton University senate,
OR
b.    They have at least two years work experience in their field of specialization.

Master of Education in Guidance and Counselling

Admission Requirements
i)    Candidates must satisfy entry requirements for Egerton University. In addition admission shall be offered to holders of first degree in Education, with at least Upper Second Class Honours or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution by Egerton University.
ii)    Under special circumstances, admission may be offered to holders of a first degree with a Lower Second Class Honours and relevant experience in research or teaching at an institution of higher learning recognized by the Senate.
iii)    Provision status of admission shall be granted to applicants who have upper second class honours or equivalent but lack undergraduate courses considered essential for graduate study in the major field.

Admission Requirements

iii)    In addition to 4.1 and 4.2, the following shall be eligible for admission to the Masters Degree in Measurement and Evaluation:
a.    Holders of Bachelor of Education with at least Upper Second Class Honours from Egerton University or any other recognized University.
b.    Holders of Bachelor of Arts with at least Upper Second Class Honours plus a Postgraduate Diploma in Education from Egerton University or any other recognized University;
c.    Holders of degrees stated in 4.3 (i) and 4.3 (ii) above but with Lower Second Class Honours shall be eligible for admission if:
1.    They have relevant postgraduate training acceptable to the Egerton University Senate,
OR
2.    They have at least two years work experience in their field of specialization.

Doctor of Philosophy in Counselling Psychology
Admission Requirements
The common Egerton University rules and regulations for admission into the Doctor of Philosophy Programme shall apply. Applicants for the Doctor of Philosophy programme in Counselling Psychology shall be required to have a Master of Science/Arts/Education degree in Counselling Psychology or its equivalent. Applicants for the Doctor of Philosophy programme in Counselling Psychology shall be required to present a research proposal acceptable to the Department of Psychology, Counselling and Educational Foundations.

Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Foundations
Admission Requirements
Candidates must satisfy entry requirements for Egerton University. In addition admission shall be offered to holders of Master of Education in Educational Foundations. Applicants for the Doctor of Philosophy programme in Educational Foundations shall be required to present a research proposal acceptable to the Department of Psychology, Counselling and Educational Foundations.

Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Psychology

Candidates must satisfy entry requirements for Egerton University. In addition admission shall be offered to holders of Master of Education degree in Educational Psychology or its equivalent. Applicants for the Doctor of Philosophy programme in Educational Psychology shall be required to present a research proposal acceptable to the Department of Psychology, Counselling and Educational Foundations.
