Welcome to the Department of Literature, Languages and Linguistics (LL&L)! Our department is one of the four departments of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS). Our programs and courses offer multiple opportunities for undergraduate and graduate studies in languages and linguistics, literature, journalism media studies, information science, communication skills, cultural studies, performing arts, and language education. LL&L is one of the largest and most diverse departments in the university, in terms of disciplines and programs. We also offer certificate courses in Chinese, Japanese, French, German, Library science, English and Kiswahili. The department provides students and academic staff with opportunities for research in many linguistic, literary, cultural, and performance traditions. The department is also affiliated with other departments and institutes within the university where our academic staff are engaged in teaching and research. In all these endeavors we strive to train our students to think independently and critically in order to function effectively in a contemporary global environment. Ours is the only department in which every student at Egerton University must register because we offer a one-year university-wide course in communication skills to all first year students!
