Egerton University is the premier Agricultural public University in Kenya. It has however, broadened to other areas of research and teaching such as Natural resources, Applied sciences, Education, Computer science, Medical sciences, Education, Engineering and Business studies.The University has 3 constituent Colleges which are; Kisii University College, Laikipia University College and Chuka University College. These are autonomous except for using the Senate of Egerton University.
Currently, the University offers 63 undergraduate degree, 46 masters degree, and 36 doctorate degree programmes in its various faculties.
There are also 8 diploma programmes and a number of certificate programmes.
The phenomenal growth of the University is a reflection of the importance that the Kenya Nation attaches to development in those fields and in education in general.

Since its inauguration Egerton university has continued to expand. It has 42 departments in eight faculties with 3,181 staff members and about 13,000 students pursuing various undergraduate, diploma, and postgraduate degree programmes.

About Egerton University
Egerton University was founded in 1939 and was originally named Egerton Farm School.It was established by a large land grant of 740 acres by Lord Maurice Egerton of Tatton. The school's original purpose was to prepare white European youth for careers in agriculture.
By 1955, the name had changed to Egerton Agricultural College. A one-year certificate course and a two-year diploma course in agriculture were offered. In 1958, Lord Egerton donated another 1,100 acres of land.Soon afterward, the college opened its doors to people of all races from Kenya and other African countries.
In 1987, the College was finally recognized as a Chartered Public University.

Egerton University will hold its second Open Day on 2nd March 2012 at the Sports Pavilion, Njoro Campus from 9.00 am.
Scholarships
Scholarship opportunities are available for three MSc and one PhD students at Egerton University’s Dryland Research Training and Ecotourism Centre, Chemeron.
