Kenya, as a rapidly developing society, is undergoing drastic social, economic and educational changes with increase in student population. The attendant socio-psychological problems in educational institutions demand solutions. Consequently, the problems brought about by these changes require the services of highly trained educational psychologists. It is expected that the Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Educational Psychology shall provide highly trained education psychologists for institutions of learning.
The programme should:
i) Develop effective communication skills and inter-personal relationships;
ii) Enable the graduate identify and specify client problems and needs;
iii) Provide the graduate with skills in psychological measurement and evaluation techniques;
iv) Impart knowledge and skills in educational psychology;
v) Enable the graduate to develop and implement educational psychology programme;
vi) Provide skills and techniques to conduct research;
Candidates must satisfy entry requirements for Egerton University. In addition admission shall be offered to holders of Master of Education degree in Educational Psychology or its equivalent. Applicants for the Doctor of Philosophy programme in Educational Psychology shall be required to present a research project proposal acceptable to the Department of Psychology, Counselling and Educational Foundations.
Course Structure and Duration
Doctor of Philosophy programme in Educational Psychology shall last for a period of not less than three years and not more than five academic years.
All examinations for this programme shall be conducted in accordance with examination regulations as stipulated in the Egerton University Statute XXIX
The grading of examinations for this programme shall be conducted in accordance with in Egerton University Statute XXIX
To graduate a student shall be required to take and pass ALL scheduled courses within the stipulated period.
The Doctor of Philosophy degree in Educational Psychology is not classified in accordance with Egerton University Statute XXIX
